I enjoyed reading all this about WiFi but basically want to know if you sell the setup or instructions on how to make my RV network for 2 laptops and then set up a service. I think I need a booster or antenna but don't understand whether it needs to boost my signal or the campgrounds signal (i know you put on the window but why?)

I don't think I can justify a DataStorm at this point but need air card or something.

Just checking, I didn't see a play to send you an email or are you not supposed to respond to blogs :)

Thanks

Hi,

If you want to run a good professional or for free hotspot AmazingPorts provide a free of charge software that allow you to charge for or give access away for free. It also manages QoS and other important aspects of WiFi networking for example you might want to give away simple slow access for free - but charge for more broad band and higher QoS.

The solution easily installs on any standard PC with two network adapters

Please feel free to visit the home page at http://www.amazingports.com FAQ at http://www.amazingports.com/web70/faq.jsp and to download the free software at http://www.amazingports.com/web70/hotspot-download.jsp

I've been using a Wi-Fire I purchased from hfield.com for about a year now. It's small enought to fit in the palm of my hand and reson on the screen of my laptop, but it has a range of 1000 ft from an access point. The gadget is an all-in-one USB WiFi Adapter and Directional antenna. Thought you might want to check it out.

Thanks for posting,

I'VE BEEN READING HITCHITCH FOR YEARS AND JUST READ YOUR SITE. LOVE IT! I'M KIND OF A GEEK MYSELF SO I REALLY ENJOY THE INFO I'VE GOTTEN TODAY
I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE A G ROUTER AND I WAS USING A G CARD IN MY LAPTOP. I'VE GOT AN ATRIUM BUILDING IN MY BACK YARD, AND COULD BARELY GET A CONNECTION IN THERE (IT WOULD CONNECT AND THEN LOSE THE CONNECTION THEN RECONNECT) SO I BOUGHT A BELKIN PRE-N CARD AND TRIED IT. USING THE SAME ROUTER I NOW GET A SOLID CONNECTION FROM ANYWHERE IN MY BACK YARD. I GUESS THERE SOMETHING TO BE SAID FOR THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT YOUR USING TOO!
I PLAN TO GET A 5TH WHEEL IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS AND JOIN YOU ON THE ROAD. HOUSE IS PAID FOR, MY TRUCKS ARE PAID OFF. I'LL BE READING YOUR SITES EVERY WEEK FROM NOW ON THANKS

May I point out a little typo: In the 2nd paragraph of your post you say "You also see measurements like 56Kbps. That stands for Kilobytes per second."

However, it should be kilo<em>bits</em> here as well.

I use a cellular modem that has both broadband and national access through Verizon. If I am in an area that the broadband access is not available, it automaticaly connects me to national access. National access is a connection, but is as slow as basic landline dial up. The broadband is fast, not as fast as DSL or Cable modem... but a heck of a lot faster than dial up!

Prior to my Verizon PCMCIA card, I used a Sierra Wireless AirCard 710, with service through T-Mobile for 2 years. It was dial up speed... slow, but served the purpose!

Since I began using the PCMCIA cards, I have never had a location where I was unable to get a signal as they work off of cellular technology. Verizon is working quickly to cover the country with Broadband access.

Am I glad I found your site(s) on the web. Great stuff!

I am not a geek so it takes me time to learn.

My plan is to full time RV &#38; take my consulting/writing biz on the road. I will be all over

the U.S., plan to spend time in Canada and some in Mexico.

Since I don't like the idea of the hassle of looking for Wi-Fi spots or working in coffee

shops or where people are around I thought I was going to go Verizon Wireless Mobile

Broadband ($100 card; $60 month; unlimited broadband; dial-up where no coverage, U.S. only).

Realized I'd be in mountains a lot (Glacier Nat'l Park etc) &#38; VZ is only in metropolitan

areas, some rural, but not all. So I figured I'd also use Wi-Fi as Nat'l Parks have it as a

back-up.

I saw your 3-ways to connect article and now see the Datastorm satellite. You say it is from

$60-$200 per month. I would suppose it costs a lot for the dish etc but I've run out of time

today to spend on web.

Will the dish work in Canada &#38; Mexico? Why is it better, if it is, than Verizon broadband

which seemed the least expensive and easiest to set-up and use, other than Canada and

Mexico?

Can you point me at where to go on your website(s) to get this information? What is the best

way(s) to go?

I am a real novice at this and really enjoyed your article.
